All of us at the DEN have had such a blast this summer - with our fun get-togethers, inside jokes and late nights.

We recently just had our last staff meeting, where we gave awards to everyone-but they were funny awards that demonstrated their lives at the paper these past few months.

I thought it would be fun to let the readers know what everybody's award was-so you can see the personality behind the reporters of the stories you've been reading all this time.

I'll start with our "Mother Hen of the DEN." It definitely went to our managing editor, Kristin Jording. Her main talent was screaming at everybody (especially Pablo and Harrison) to get stories done on time.

Pablo Rodriguez, the campus editor, and Harrison Bueno, a reporter, both received similar awards. Pablo got "Better Late Than Never," and Harrison received "Biggest procrastinator."

As Kristin's two troubled "sons," I can say that she's probably proud of them after all that yelling. Both of them have improved so much.

Abby Allgire, the city editor, was awarded "Most Reliable." With a total of eight stories published this week, I can definitely say she's always stepped up with breaking news. She is someone you can count on.

Alesha Bailey was also reliable. She was originally just Activities Editor - but when we needed an extra copy editor, she stepped up.

Alesha also has something the others don't: cute clothes. She enjoys dressing up for all of her interviews, even ones that included her hiking through Fox Ridge State Park. Did I mention she was wearing heels? Alesha received "Best Dressed."

Jordan Boner, our second copy editor, is probably one of the nicest people here at the DEN. He received the "DEN Sweetheart" award because everything he says, the girls here think it's so sweet.

Rashida Lyles-Cowan, as News Editor, had to deal with our reporters the most. She spent her nights looking over everyone's stories. Rashida knows almost everything. She has never messed up or made a mistake. That's why we gave her "Ms Perfect."

Our Online Editor, Julia Carlucci, may seem like she's on the down low because she works with the website, but she is one of the loudest - especially when she wants to order food in the newsroom. Her favorite place is Jimmy John's. Julia got the "Most Likely to Order Food" award.

Our Assistant Online Editor, Chaz LeGrand, changed his major in the midst of the summer. He received the "Most Undecided" Award.

James Roedl received the "When did you get here?" award, because although he is a very good worker, he came to the DEN summer staff late.

Robby Warren, our Photo Editor, got the "MIA" award because he changed his phone number three times this summer, and every time we tried to call him we called the wrong number. Our Assistant Photo Editor, Jen Brown, received the "Nicest Person" award.

And as for me, well - I got the "Most Gullible." My staff says it's because I believe everything, but I think it's because I trust my staff too much.

It's been a really fun summer. I don't think it could have been any better - especially with the staff I had. I wish them good luck in the things they pursue.

Other possible DEN awards

How about giving out some other DEN awards? Like..."Person who had the most comments on their story online because their article/editorial was ignorant?". (Continued…)

Too many so-called editors (read: resume inflation) and not enough competent reporters.
