Fraternities, sororities and various residence halls held events, like trick-or-treating, to commemorate Halloween for area children.
Bailey Mast, a sophomore elementary education major and vice president of Alpha Sigma Tau, said she, along with the other Greeks, pulled their weight to give area children the chance for safe and fun trick-or-treating.
"We had a meeting about it for us to do it for community service," Mast said. "We needed to do it for our community service, gathering people together for each house to participate."
Mast said Greek Court came up with this concept not only for them, but also with Charleston children in mind to provide a real Halloween experience.
"I think everyone in Greek Court gets into it," Mast said. "We made our banner, and I think we like it when we get to make banners, because it unifies us."
Mast said she has observed some interesting costumes around her house. She said Greek Court does this annually.
Sheila Poffinbarger, assistant director of Taylor Dining, said she had a new plan for the Taylor Dining party this Halloween she tried out.
"We've been working on this for the past few weeks," Poffinbarger said. "I talked to staff about getting our menus together, and we do this every year, but this year we're trying the hot wing eating contest."
Poffinbarger said it went more towards students rather than themselves.
"I've seen a lot of good costumes," Poffinbarger said. "I saw Batman, a princess, and even a genie."
Poffinbarger said she's been in charge with Halloween festivities every year because Taylor is the only residence hall that stays open all the time. She also hopes people showed up to celebrate.
