Campus Brief: Novelist, activitst Ngugi wa Thiong'o to speak

Novelist and social activist Ngugi Thiong'o will give a reading at 7 p.m. today in the Doudna Fine Arts Center Lecture Hall. In addition, an open forum with Ngugi wa will be held 1 to 4 p.m. today in the Booth Library Conference Room.
A Kenyan-born writer, Ngugi is internationally recognized for his novels, plays and essays. These include "A Grain of Wheat," "Detained," "Decolonising the Mind" and, most recently, the novel "Wizard of the Crow."
He is currently a distinguished professor of English and comparative literature and director of the International Center for Writing and Translation at the University of California-Irvine. His visit is the first event in the new Eastern Humanities Series, which the theme is "Meaningful Work."
