A new set of Student Government election rules that could potentially affect the fall elections was presented at Wednesday night's Student Senate meeting.

Mark Olendzki, student vice president for student affairs, began working on the election rules over the summer after multiple discrepancies in the spring 2009 election about whether candidates should follow the 2006 election rules or the 2007 rules.

Olendzki and Eric Wilber, student executive vice president, authored the proposal, which will be voted on next week.

"The current elections rules are proving to be, not so much useless, but they don't meet the needs of Student Government," Olendzki said.

The bill would give members of the election commission the ability to enforce any election rules broken by having a candidate forfeit or resign any position they had won.

Scott Lambert, student vice president for academic affairs, said he is making progress toward his campaign goal of having a computer in the 24-hour student vending lounge.

"Students need a place to print out their homework throughout the day," Lambert said.

After researching options, two locked computers, a printer and a Panther card reader may be available by the end of the semester for what Lambert calls "e-mail stations."

The stations would have a 15-minute time limit, and would be very accessible compared to computers in Booth Library or the Gregg Triad, Lambert said.

• The Student Senate voted to find a way to fund sending representatives to the conference on Student Government Associations held in Texas. In the past, fees have been approximately $5,000 for five representatives. Money for the conference was not planned for in the budget.

• The first meeting for the Apportionment Board is potentially set for the second week of October, after the eighth student member is appointed.

• The competition for next year's shuttle bus logo will run throughout October. For more information, contact Michael Stopka, the chair of the shuttle bus committee.

• A 55-seat bus for the Monetary Award Program grant rally to Springfield will leave at 8 a.m. from Old Main on Oct. 15 arriving back around 4 p.m.

• A Student Senate resolution was passed, supporting a forum for the LGBT Resource Center at 9 p.m. on Oct. 9 in the Phipps Auditorium in the Physical Science Building.

• Besides the elections rules, two other proposals were tabled. One proposing spending $54.64 on sanitation wipes for the Student Activity Center, and the other a $55 Visa gift card for the shuttle bus logo contest.
