Dates and times for ROC Fest 2009 (residents on campus) have changed and were announced during the Residence Hall Association's Thursday night meeting in Thomas Hall.
ROC Fest will be the week of Sept. 28 and the theme this year is "rockin' through time."

The boat race will be Monday in Carmen Pond at 5 p.m., with boat judging beginning at 4:30 p.m.

Battle of the Sexes-Residence Hall Style will be Tuesday at 7 p.m. in the Grand Ballroom of the Student Union.

The obstacle course relay race will be Wednesday at 5 p.m. in the South Quad.

The second annual EIU 12-hour scavenger hunt is planned for Thursday; each residence hall will receive the scavenger hunt list at 9:30 a.m. and the hunt ends at 9:30 p.m.

There will be a closing lunch in Taylor Hall at noon Friday.

Because ROC Fest week is also Breast cancer awareness week, points for ROC Fest will also be awarded to residents who either buy a breast cancer awareness t-shirt or participate at the dunk tank for breast cancer awareness Thursday in the South Quad.

In other business, Director of Housing and Dining Mark Hudson announced that there will be a "mock fire" next Friday afternoon in the South Quad.

In the demonstration, there will be two rooms set on fire, approximately the size of residence hall rooms. One room will have a sprinkler system and one will not.

This coincides with Housing's initiative to install sprinkler systems in all of the resident halls.

Hudson also announced that paper towels are now available in the bathrooms of every learning community. Prior to this announcement, students were responsible for bringing their own towels into the restrooms. The paper towels are being provided to combat the H1N1 virus concern.

Some of the halls will receive paper towel dispensers, while others may receive hand dryers. Housing estimates that the paper towels will cost approximately $30,000 a year.

The meeting continued with vice president nominations to fill the vacant spot on the RHA executive board, a motion was also passed to review executive board positions, and new student programs announced the they are seeking candidates for Debut Leaders and Senior Prowl Leaders.

RHA meets again next Thursday in Andrews Hall. Any resident on campus can attend the meetings.
