Chana and Sleezer were standing on the second level of a double-decker bus when it passed under the overpass at Route 16 in Mattoon. Both reportedly stood up on the eastbound bus just prior to passing under the overpass at 7:24 p.m.

The charter bus was returning the group to Charleston on Saturday evening after boating on the lake, police reported.

Sleezer was pronounced dead at 2:10 a.m. at the Carle Foundation Hospital's surgical intensive care unit in Urbana on Sunday.

Chana was pronounced dead at 3:24 a.m. at the Carle Foundation Hospital.

The incident is under investigation by the Mattoon police department and the Champaign county coroner.
