5 named for interim associate dean spot

Five candidates were announced for the role of interim associate dean of the College of Arts and Humanities in a memo sent to faculty and staff within the college Wednesday.

Eugene Harrison, an art education professor; Janet Marquardt, an art history professor; John Oertling, chair of the theatre arts department; Patricia Poulter, chair of the student teaching department and a music professor; and Anita Shelton, chair of the history department, were named in the memo from Blair Lord, provost and vice president for academic affairs.

Lord issued a memo April 13 seeking candidates to serve as interim associate dean for two years. In the memo, he said he would accept comments on the candidates through Wednesday.

Current associate dean Jeffrey Lynch was named interim dean of the college on April 9.

Current dean James Johnson is set to retire on June 1. Lynch was originally going to retire on Dec. 31.

The search for a dean of the college started in the fall, with finalists visiting Eastern in February.

Lord announced March 24 the search for a dean would reopen this fall.
