The Eastern men's golf team finished in 12th place of 12 teams in the three-round Tennessee State Big Blue Intercollegiate at the Greystone Country Club in Nashville, Tenn.

Junior Matt Bird finished led the Panthers as he tied for 31st place with a three-round score of 221. Bird shot even par 72 in his first two rounds, but finished on the final day with 77 (+5).

He said he was happy with his first two rounds and hit the ball well on Monday, but did not putt well.

"I did a good job hitting greens this weekend so I can take that out of this," Bird said.

He said he and the rest of the team need to work on wedge play because they did not do a good job with that on a short course. He said the players did have to battle cold and wind Monday.

Eastern freshman Gino Parrodi finished one shot behind Bird finishing with a 222, which was good enough to tie for 36th place. Parrodi had matching rounds of 73 the first two days and shot a 76 Tuesday.

Sophomore Francisco Cherizola finished in a tie for tied for 58th place with a score of 230. Other finishers for Eastern included senior Matt Davis in 64th with a score of 234 and junior Lucas Mannix in 69th with a 241.

Davis said he did not do well putting and chipping.

"I struggled, and now, I know I need to work on my short game," Davis said. "There were a couple of teams out there who we know we can beat. We have a few weeks left until conference we have to work to get better."

Belmont won the event with score of 856, which was four strokes ahead of second place Murray State.

Other Ohio Valley Conference teams included Tennessee Tech and Tennessee Martin who tied for third place with a score of 870.

Morehead State finished in 10th place with a score of 889, while Tennessee State was in 11th with an 894.

Hunter Green from Middle Tennessee State won the event with a score of 205.

Eastern's next meet will be Sunday through Tuesday at the Missouri Invitational.
