Styx will perform at the Family Weekend concert on Oct. 3.
"We are having two shows for Styx," said Tom Usher, the University Board concerts coordinator elect. "The two shows will be back to back and will most likely be at 6 p.m. and 8 p.m."
He will serve as the UB concerts coordinator next year. He said the UB has been trying to get Styx for a while, but dates never matched up.
"We have been trying to get them for so long, and we finally did," he said. "University Board has been working on getting them to play here for a while."
Usher said their adviser, Ceci Brinker, director of Student Life, found out the band was finally open to book for Family Weekend. Usher said there would probably not be an opening act at the concert.
"Most likely, it will just be Styx," he said.
He thinks the turnout will be good with students wanting to get tickets for their family members as well as themselves.
"Family Weekend usually fills up pretty quick because it not just for students," Usher said.
Family weekend consists of floor and balcony seats, but unlike the spring concert, the floor is a seated section instead of stand-up section.
He said about 3,000 tickets would be available, the same as for the spring concert.
Sheila Hurley, the UB concerts coordinator, said Styx has been on a list for acts to bring to campus for a while.
"There is a list that the Parent's Club, Ceci Brinker and Dan Nadler (vice president for student affairs) put together," she said.
Family Weekend will be Oct. 2 through 4.
