Panthers finish 7-1 during Spring Break trip

Eastern sophomore pitcher Mike Recchia (4-0) almost went the distance. He pitched eight innings, giving up only one run and hour hits. He struck out nine and walked one.
Eastern senior Jordan Kreke led the way with a three-run home run and finished the game going 4-for-5 with five RBIs. Eastern's offense finished with 16 hits in the third game of the series.
In the doubleheader on Saturday, Eastern dominated. They defeated Morehead State 26-12 and 6-4.
Kreke provided the spark in the top of the seventh inning in the second game (which is a seven-inning game in OVC play), Kreke singled home two Eastern runners with two outs.
In the first game on Saturday, the Panthers (13-5, 3-0 OVC) took a 12-4 lead. Eastern scored those 26 runs on 24 hits.
Kreke led the way with four RBIs as Eastern hit five home runs in the first game.
The 26 runs were the most the Panthers have scored in a game since posting 27 in an April 2003 home win against Eastern Kentucky.
Eastern finished 7-1 on its Spring Break trip.
Eastern returns to action against Chicago State at 3 p.m. Tuesday in Chicago.
Women's tennis splits weekend matches
The Eastern women's tennis team picked up its first OVC win of the season with a 4-3 win against Morehead State (9-6, 1-2) on Sunday afternoon at Darling Courts.
The Panthers (5-8, 1-1 OVC) lost to Eastern Kentucky 7-0 on Saturday afternoon at Darling Courts.
The Panthers return to action against OVC opponent Jacksonville State at 10 a.m. Wednesday in Jacksonville, Ala.
Men's tennis drops league matches
The Eastern men's tennis team lost both OVC matches this weekend.
The Panthers lost 4-3 to Morehead State on Sunday afternoon at Darling Courts. The Eagles (7-3, 2-1 OVC) have won five of their last six matches.
The Panthers (7-7, 0-2) also lost to Eastern Kentucky 6-1 on Saturday at Darling Courts.
Eastern Illinois senior Jordan Nestrud defeated Eastern Kentucky's Mel Segota (EKU) - 6-1, 6-7 and 10-7.
The Panthers return to action against OVC opponent Jacksonville State at 10 a.m. Wednesday in Jacksonville, Ala.
Track performs well at Georgia
The Eastern men's and women's track teams captured seven first-place finishes at the Georgia Relays on Friday and Saturday in Athens, Ga., in the first outdoor meet of the season.
Eastern senior Samantha Manto won the 400-meter hurdles. Junior Crystal Jones won the 400-meter dash, and the women's 800-meter relay team also won.
The men's teams picked up wins in the 1,600-meter sprint relay, the 800-meter relay and the 1,600-meter relay. Senior Brenton Peagues won the 400-meter dash.
Eastern assistant coach JaRod Tobler won the men's long jump as an open competitor.
Eastern returns to action when both teams will compete at the Indiana State Invite Saturday in Terre Haute, Ind.
