Taylor Dining Hall issuing receipts for to-go meals

Taylor Dining is cracking down on students who take more than one meal per swipe.
To stop this problem, Taylor Dining started issuing receipts for students getting food to go.
Panther Dining officials noticed many students would sit down and eat in Taylor and then also take food home in a to-go container.
Students would sometimes try to take two meals to go, said Jody Horn, director of Panther Dining.
"When customers take two or three meals at a time without being charged, it adds up and affects everyone's costs," she said.
Some people eat more than others, and some meals are not eaten.
Both of these factors are taken into account when figuring out the cost of a meal plan, Horn said.
If the results at Taylor are positive, the policy might be implemented in other dining halls, she said.
Prior to the new rule, students could enter the food line as they pleased, and tell the server they needed a to-go meal.
Now, when students want their meal to go, they first have to get a receipt at the swiping station when they enter.
They then show the receipt to the person behind the food counter for proof.
Steve Parnther, a sophomore physical education major, said he usually gets a to-go meal in Taylor every afternoon.
He said the receipt policy is pointless to add now because it makes things more difficult.
"They should have done that first semester," he said.
Katy Conrad, a freshman education major, will get to-go meals about once or twice a week.
"I don't really think it's that big of a deal," she said.
Conrad said she doesn't think the policy will stop students from getting more than one meal with one swipe.
For students to by-pass the rules, she said they could get a receipt, put it in their pocket, eat in and then get another meal to go.
Horn said there are always ways to work against change.
"If we notice it continues to be a problem, we will have to find another route to try," she said.
