Avant-garde poet to give reading today

Ann Waldman, whose poetry is often associated with Beat poets or the avant-garde, will perform at 6 p.m. today in the Lecture Hall of the Doudna Fine Arts Center.
Waldman co-founded the Jack Kerouac School of Disembodied Poetics at Naropa University with Allen Ginsberg.
Waldman is also a professor of poetics at Naropa University, a private American liberal arts university located in Boulder, Colo.
Waldman has published more than 40 books of poetry. Her works include "Fast Speaking Woman" published in 1974, "Marriage: A Sentence" published in 2000 and "In the Room of Never Grieve: New and Selected Poems from 1985-2003" published in 2003.
Waldman has also produced spoken-word CDs, most recently releasing "Matching Half" with Akilah Oliver and Ambrose Bye in 2007.
Oliver and Bye are also poets.
She has also produced films such as "Eyes in All Head," which came out in 1989 and "Uh-oh Plutonium," which came out in 1982.
Admission for the poetry reading is free and open to the public.
