Editorial: Support Panther women at home and on the road

Omar Solomon and the rest of the Student Senate took initiative with a fan bus to see the Eastern women's basketball team possibly play in the Ohio Valley Conference Tournament in Nashville, Tenn.
Of course, this is all contingent on the Eastern women's basketball team winning on Tuesday night.
The Panthers play Tennessee Tech at 7 p.m. in the first round of the OVC Tournament in Lantz Arena.
If the women's team wins — and they most likely will — they will be heading to Nashville to play in the semifinals and then they could play in the title game on Saturday afternoon.
Eastern students should take advantage of this opportunity to see the women's basketball team.
This program is at its best since the 1987-1988 season when the team won its conference tournament and made the NCAA tournament.
Eastern has won 22 games this season — the most since the 1987-88 team that also won 22 games.
The 1987-88 team ended up winning the Gateway Conference and earned a berth in the NCAA tournament.
The Panthers won their first postseason game since 1995 last season and the end of this season could see the Panthers make history.
And now is the time for Eastern to get the support like it has in Lantz for the past two seasons.
The bus will leave at 5 a.m. on Friday and be on a first-come, first-served basis.
This women's basketball team has been fun and exciting to watch. They have a chance to reach the NCAA tournament, but the Panthers need home support.
The home support in Lantz Arena has been well documented — 20 straight home wins.
It needs to continue in Nashville, but it starts Tuesday night.
It will be the last chance to see Rachel Galligan (Eastern's career-leading scorer, blocked-shots leader and free-throws leader), Ellen Canale, Megan Edwards, Lindsey Kluempers and Julie Lipperd.
This year's team has the special tangibles to accomplish that task again.
The least you can do is go out and support them, whether the team's playing in Lantz Arena or in Nashville at the Sommet Center.
So take advantage of the fan bus provided by Student Senate. Who knows when the women's basketball team will have a season like this again?
