On the morning of Thursday, Feb. 19, the body of 1st Lt. Jared Southworth was driven through Charleston, Ill. in a memorial procession down Route 16. Southworth, who was a 2006 graduate of Eastern Illinois University, was killed in action while serving with the Illinois National Guard in Afghanistan.

Southworth's body was flown to the Coles County Memorial Airport in Mattoon, Ill. and then driven through Charleston and continued on to Southworth's hometown of Oakland, Ill.

The Eastern community was urged by President Perry to line the streets during the procession to show support for the Southworth family. View the photo gallery to see Thursday morning's procession.
