The Panthers (7-2) were scheduled to play nine games last February, but because of weather conditions only played four games.
"It's amazing," said red-shirt junior center fielder Angela Danca. "It's great to be outside for us."
Catchers working together
Eastern freshman catcher Hailee Hanna and Eastern sophomore third baseman Kiley Holtz are the primary catchers this season.
Hanna has only allowed one passed ball in seven games this season.
Hanna was the third primary catcher for the team in the past four seasons. Sandyn Short and Ally Nolte were the previous two main catchers for the past season.
"I don't think it's too much of a change," Danca said. "She just came in and took the role. She's been a great fit."
Eastern head coach Kim Schuette thinks both catchers complement each other.
"Hanna's got the natural arm, Kiley's a little bit more vocal with the connection with each other," she said. "We're going to need them both."
Run production slows down
The Panthers exploded for a season-high 11 runs against Virginia on Saturday in the South Carolina Gamecock Invitational.
But in the following three games, the Panthers only managed to score two runs in each game.
"Sometimes you got to tip your hat in a while," Danca said. "We didn't have the connecting hits like we did in New Mexico."
The Panthers scored 25 runs in five games at the New Mexico State Tournament.
