The Eastern Symphony Orchestra combined with two accomplished pianists, Jeffery Brown and Susan Teicher, to host a performance in the memory of the late Louis Teicher Sunday afternoon.

"Dueling Pianos: Eastern Symphony Orchestra" honored Louis Teicher, a member of the popular piano duo of Arthur Ferrante and Louis Teicher in the Dvorak Concert Hall in the Doudna Fine Arts Center.

Together Ferrante and Louis Teicher arranged dozens of pieces of music, 10 of which were Top 100 Hits. Ferrante and Louis Teicher had a 40-year career recording music and touring from the '50s up until their retirement in 1989.

The first session of the concert consisted of the combined efforts of the Eastern Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Richard R. Rossi, and pianist Brown.

The chosen selection was "Piano Concerto No. 2 in C Minor, Opus 18" composed by Sergei Rachmaninoff, with three movements performed.

"(Brown) is a great pianist," said Harrison Cole, senior piano performance major. "The performance was amazing. It had a nice collaboration of soloist and orchestra."

After the intermission, the tribute to Louis Teicher began.

Susan Teicher, daughter of Louis Teicher, joined conductor Rossi in playing the arrangements of her father along with the orchestra.

Susan Teicher followed her father's footsteps into the Juilliard School and performed at prestigious concert halls with many famous orchestras, including Carnegie Recital Hall.

She moved to Sydney, Australia to perform with the Sydney Symphony Orchestra, and most recently played with the Danville Symphony Orchestra in Illinois.

Susan Teicher now resides in New York.

Arrangements of "Fiddler on the Roof" and "West Side Story" were two of the five pieces played during the session.

Also included was a solo performance by Susan Teicher of "My Funny Valentine," which her father arranged and gave to her 15 years ago. This specific arrangement had never been performed in front of an audience before.

"I think this was one of our best concerts we've had so far this year," said Jessica Savage, a clarinet player in the orchestra and senior music education major. "I think everyone played their best today."

Susan Teicher was also pleased with the performance.

"I thought the orchestra did great, and Dr. Rossi did a great job with his music," Susan Teicher said. "I think there were a lot of people here tonight that remember (Louis Teicher) and remember his music."
