Perfect for Valentine's Day weekend, the choirs performed pieces by Henry Purcell, John Bennet and Billy Joel.
Performing in the Dvorak Concert Hall was a change from previous years when Doudna was under construction.
"Going from teaching in a gym for six years to this is just wonderful," said Richard Rossi, conductor for two of the ensembles. "Human voices need a warm room to perform in, and that's exactly what we have now."
First to perform was the Collegium Musicum Camerata singing three pieces, including "Weep O Mine Eyes," which was conducted by graduate conductor Janet McCumber.
Some audience members were surprised during the piece when other choir members began to descend from the back of the concert hall up to the stage.
"They stopped next to the rows and kept singing, and it was neat because not only were you hearing the entire choir, but you could also hear a single voice right next to you," said Carly Jensen, a senior education major.
Next to take the stage was the University Mixed Chorus, directed by Adam Sitch. The chorus featured four songs, including "And So It Goes" by Billy Joel.
Last to take that stage was the Concert Choir, conducted again by Rossi.
Among the members of the audience was President Bill Perry.
"The voices were just great," Perry said. "I enjoyed the selections. They picked a very nice age range to work with, and I especially like the Billy Joel number."
"Sweet and Sour Nursery Rhymes," composed by Libby Larsen, who was on campus last week, brought the concert to a close.
The piece consisted of three songs and guest horn player Katie McBain.
Some of the next musical performances include the Boston Brass at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, James Litzelman on piano in a benefit concert for the Alan R. Aulabaugh Music Scholarship at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday and Dueling Pianos at 4 p.m. on Sunday.
The concerts will take place in the Dvorak Concert Hall.
