Student Senate will continue to discuss and potentially vote on two ongoing bylaw changes at tonight's meeting.
The campus involvement bylaw change will be discussed on the floor this week.
Student Senate Speaker Drew Griffin said the bylaw was introduced last week by the authors. Bylaw changes then go into general discussion the following week.
At the previous meeting, Student Senate members approved three resolutions that encouraged members to be more active in meeting students and discussing issues.
"It's an important bylaw change and the aspects of it definitely encourages us to participate," Griffin said. "This would give teeth to the resolutions and people will see that the senate is making resolutions and now are making its execution required, and there's nothing wrong with that."
The leave of absence bylaw change will also return for the fourth meeting. It was tabled the past week.
"I expect to have a vote on it this meeting," Griffin said. "It could've been voted on at the last meeting, but we wanted the new senators to look over and research the legislation before a vote to make an informed decision."
Griffin said even though the bylaw change has not been passed the last three meetings, he doesn't think the Student Senate is avoiding the issue.
"Regardless of when we vote on it, it won't go into effect until the first meeting next year," he said. "I don't think they are pushing it aside. It gives them time to reflect and examine it."
The bylaw change will hopefully be resolved soon, Griffin added. He said more important issues like student fees are coming up soon.
In other business, Ashlei Birch, secretary of the Student Senate and director of elections, will give a presentation about the help that she will need for the April Student Government elections. She will also announce the election dates.
Griffin said a high turnover rate is expected for the fall semester because of members leaving and some members being appointed for a semester term.
