The Student Education Association-IEA/NEA held their first conference Saturday. Almost 100 future teachers came to join us. What started as an idea and a dream quickly morphed into a reality. Students of the SEA Executive Board created and organized the event.

All of the guest speakers offered great information, new knowledge, and opened the doors for thinking outside the box. Three sessions offered ideas for inside your classroom: reading comprehension strategies, classroom management and agriculture for all levels.

Keynote speaker Brent Carmichael spoke about gang awareness and diversity within the walls of the school.

Thank you to all of the speakers!

I would like to thank my executive board and faculty advisers for their help, encouragement and support throughout the planning process.

It was hard work and what seemed impossible became possible as we watched it unfold Saturday. I especially want to thank all who attended; we honestly could not have had the conference if it wasn't for you.

"Spring into Education!" could not have gone any better and I hope that it can become a tradition for SEA here at EIU.

I am honored to have initiated this professional development opportunity for education majors!

Lindsey Dalesandro

Student Education Association-IEA/NEA president
