Panther Briefs: Panthers have strong showing at Notre Dame track meet

The Eastern men's and women's track and field teams had solid showings at the Notre Dame Meyo Invitational on Friday and Saturday in South Bend, Ind.
Red-shirt freshman Zye Boey continued his dominance by finishing second in the 60-meter dash in 6.69 seconds, and Boey won the 200-meter dash in 20.93 seconds to reach an NCAA provisional qualifying time. He already has provisionally qualified for the 60-meter dash. Freshman DeMarcus Brooks (6.8 seconds) and sophomore Chevon Walker (6.82 seconds) finished sixth and seventh respectively in the 60-meter dash behind Boey.
Boey now holds the Eastern all-time record in the 200-meter dash. Boey passed Obadiah Cooper, who formally held the record of 21.13 seconds.
Freshman Tyler Carter finished eighth in the 60-meter hurdles in 8.22 seconds. Freshman Sean Wiggans finished third in the 500-meter dash in 1:03.57, while senior Brenton Pegues finished eighth in 1:04.80.
Sophomore sprinter Marcus Williams added a strong performance in the 300-meter run in 35.03 seconds.
The 1,000-meter run was dominated by upperclassmen on Friday with senior David Holm winning the race in 2:23.41. Senior teammate Clint Coffey finished sixth in that event in 2:26.46.
On the women's side, junior Kandace Arnold finished eighth in the shot put (45 feet, 1.75 inches), while her teammate Nicole Walcott finished 13th (42 feet, 6.25 inches).
In the weight throw Nicole Walcott (53 feet, 1.50 inches) nearly matched Arnolds throw of 53 feet, 7 inches. Arnold and Walcott finished seventh and eighth respectively in the weight throw.
Junior Chandra Golden was the top performer for the Panthers by finishing fourth in the 60-meter hurdles in 8.46 seconds.
The Panthers also competed at Illinois Wesleyan's Keck Invitational on Saturday.
Junior Erin O'Grady finished third in the one-mile run in 5:16. Sophomore Caitlin Napoleoni won the 3,000-meter run in 9:49.47.
The Panthers will return to action on Friday as they travel to Iowa State and DePauw.
Tennis loses weekend matches
The Eastern women's tennis team lost 5-2 against Northern Illinois on Saturday at Rockford's Clocktower Resort.
Eastern junior Hayley Homburg picked up a win at No. 3 singles for the Panthers (1-3).
Sophomore Cara Huck picked up a win at No. 2 singles. The Panthers lost two singles matches in three sets.
The Eastern men's tennis team lost 6-1 to Saint Louis on Friday in Champaign.
The Panthers (1-2) picked up only one win, and that was senior Vuk Milicevic winning at No. 3 singles. Eastern also lost two singles matches in three sets to the Billikens (3-1).
