"In the Shadows of Boats"
I recall the last time I wrote a song
I drowned hard in the depths of Lake Michigan
I sat flat on the ground with the sand and stone
in the shadows of boats
in the shadows of boats
Someday soon a sunburned girl
On a lakeside walk will be brave and call
me up from the bottom to come back home
from the shadows of boats
from the shadows of boats
Your shaky hands
Forgetting friends
Light cigarettes
Pop open cans
You're smiling in the camera lens
With disillusionment
Long enough, that sunburned girl
Will fade back to her paler self
And she won't wonder who she knows
in the shadows of boats
in the shadows of boats
