Comedian Jen Kober has performed in the past with famous comedians such as Dane Cook, George Lopez and Ron White.

She has also been featured on HBO, Showtime and Comedy Central.

She will be featured in Jamie Kennedy's new movie "The Heckler" and has a CD coming out with her material on March 1 called "Mind the Flap."

Kober, of Louisiana, performed Friday night in 7th Street Underground.

During her performance, Kober made jokes about Gov. Rod Blagojevich, and also said she is glad to be rid of President George W. Bush.

Along with that, she pulled an audience member from the crowd who was visiting his sister at Eastern and who had just been broken up with.

Kober had everyone in the crowd shouting insults at his ex-girlfriend.

Kober also talked about how when someone is hungry, every song reminds them of food and then went into numerous popular songs changing the lyrics to involve food.

She pulled another audience member and sang songs about food.

"I do it when it feels right," Kober said. "Doing sound doesn't always feel right, but there was a great setup here tonight, so I thought I would do it all tonight."

She said she enjoyed performing at Eastern.

"I loved it," she said. "This was a fantastic show. I also performed here a few years ago and there was a guy here tonight who was here two years ago. It was his birthday that night, and I gave him a lap dance."

Students also enjoyed the performance.

"It was amazing," said Brittany Mackowiak, a sophomore communications major. "Her aggressiveness stood out and she was hilarious."

Kober became a comedian because it was all she could ever do. "I was a class clown, and this was a way I could channel all my spastic energy," she said.

She has been performing for ten years now. "The first four were kind of painful," she said. "I would perform in smoky bars, but I just had a dream and knew I would get better by doing it more and just kind of pushed on."

She said it was "totally fun" performing with Cook, Lopez and White.

"Any time you work with people who are so much better than you, it is always fun," she said. "Also, you get to work with crowds bigger than what you normally would."

Kober said most of her material is based on real life occurrences. "They are almost all true stories, just blown up," she said.

Matt Caponera, University Board comedy coordinator, said he handed out Laffy Taffy candies to random students around campus to get them to come.

"I was happy with the attendance, and I think this was the biggest crowd we have had this year," Caponera said. He said he counted about 190 in attendance at Friday's show.

"Obviously, (Kober) stands out," he said. "She's a funny person who puts on a show, not just a comedian."
