It just hit me as I was typing my byline that, holy crap, I'm Verge Editor.

Being Verge Editor has been my goal since I came to Eastern last year.

I am a musician myself, and have always wanted to be that person to spread the word about interesting things going on in the music scene. I blame the movie "Almost Famous" for that.

At my interview, I was asked how my involvement in the music scene here in Charleston would affect my work.

I think that, in order to write about something, you have to be passionate about it.

I've been playing music since fourth grade and attending shows since my sophomore year of high school. I've been a promoter for seven years, and last semester, I put together my first show, the Grassroots Music Show.

I have so many ideas for what The Verge can do this semester, and it's already showing promise. We're planning on expanding our online presence, starting with entertainment-related blogs, video, photos and audio. We will also be posting links to Web sites related to the stories on dennews.com.

In addition to our dennews.com page, we also have a Facebook fan page and a MySpace page.

The idea behind having a Facebook and MySpace page is so that you, the reader, can keep in contact with us. After all, the reason why we do this is for you. If you have an idea, we want to hear it. If you think we can do something better, tell us. If you have a photo you think we could use, send it.

But wait, there's more!

Instead of just writing about events and doing in-depth pieces, The Verge wants to get involved, too. After all, you guys can't have all the fun.

The Battle of the Bands last semester was just a step towards our desire to become an integral part of this music and art community. We are currently in the idea stage of planning Verge-hosted events, such as shows, co-hosted benefits, and anything else we, or you, can think of.

With all of these new things going on, it will feel a little rocky at first. This semester will be like a debutante ball- nerve-wracking, scary and intimidating; but in the end, worth it, because we are coming out and showing off just what we can do.
