The Eastern women's tennis team is full of youth this season.

The Panthers' line-up features five freshmen, two sophomores and a junior, all of which must be thrust into the lineup as they start the spring season.

The Panthers will play against Miami (Ohio) at 10 a.m. on Sunday and against Western Michigan at 3 p.m. on Sunday in Bloomington, Ind.

"Although we look young on paper, we all show a sense of maturity that will carry over into the matches," sophomore Abby Allgire said. "There is an opportunity out there, all we have to do is go out and take it."

That opportunity includes the No. 54-ranked Western Michigan women's tennis team by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association.

"We have a young team this year so getting the team chemistry and feeling back is hard, but so far it's going great," Allgire said. "We gained a lot of talent and are really lucky for that. I hope as a team we can continually grow this year and become mentally and physically sound."

Allgire along with Cara Huck and junior Hayley Homburg are the only returnees for the Panthers, which finished 13-7 and 5-5 in the Ohio Valley Conference.

The Panthers finished in three-way tie for fifth place in the league and a coaches' voting decision left them out of the conference tournament.

Swimming returns to action

The Eastern men's and women's swimming teams to intercollegiate action after a long break.

The Panthers, which have not competed officially since Dec. 5, will compete at 2 p.m. against Indiana-Purdue-Indianapolis at Padovan Pool.

The Eastern women's swimming team (1-5) defeated IUPUI earlier this season 170-126.

The Eastern men's swimming team (1-5) also defeated IUPUI earlier this season 152-127.
