"We are in the very final stages and will probably know by the end of the week," said Sheila Hurley, concerts coordinator.
Ceci Brinker, director of Student Life, said they are very close to actually issuing a statement.
"We are getting in touch with our agent, and we need a contract so it's an official event," Brinker said.
Brinker said an offer was put out right before the holidays and that the artist's management looked at the offer, and it has been accepted.
The performer will be announced sometime in the upcoming week.
"I do expect to get the contracts (Monday)," Brinker said. "It will probably be a couple days because we have to confirm the venues and the dates."
UB has many more events planned besides the concert as well.
"UB has a great track record with coming up with new ideas," Brinker said.
The first event, Up All Nite: Blue Invasion Extreme Sports, is scheduled to take place from 8 to 11 p.m. on Wednesday in the Martin Luther King, Jr. University Union.
Brinker said she thinks this Up All Nite is going to be big.
On Wednesday, Jan. 21, University Board Mainstage is going to be having its first Open Mic Night of the semester from 8 to 10 p.m. in 7th Street Underground.
Mainstage will expand its Open Mic Night by having a 'So You Think You Can Rap' contest on Thursday, Jan. 29 from 8 to 10 p.m. in 7th Street Underground.
The rap contest will feature DJ Ruff Ryd and will feature a battle between 20 contestants similar to the movie "8 Mile."
The winner of the contest will get to record one song with producer Jim Thompson, a photo shoot and 50 CDs to hand out.
"Registration forms will be available for ('So You Think You Can Rap?') starting today and should be turned in by Jan. 21 to the Student Activity Center," said Lauren Phillips, Mainstage coordinator.
The actual competition on Jan. 29 will take place from 8 to 9 p.m. with a mixer from 9 to 10 p.m.
Pantherstock is another big UB event, and Aries Spears, who used to be a regular on Mad TV, will be coming to Eastern in late April.
"It is such a wide range in the types of programs, and I am very impressed with the spring line-up," Brinker said. "We had a good fall semester, but are bringing in a bigger lineup for the spring semester.
Brinker said there would be something for just about everyone with the UB programs that are coming up.
University Board Lectures and Cultural Arts are two committees that are going to bring a fresh approach to University Board, Brinker said.
This spring, UB will jumpstart UB Lectures and UB Cultural Arts, she said.
"Both those committees have a lot of potential," Brinker said.
Brinker said she thinks there are several good programs students can be a part of.
"UB has worked real hard this spring to work with other departments," Brinker said. "The union, housing and dining, and athletics all have strong partnerships with UB."
Sydney Stanhope, vice chair for UB, said this semester should be exciting because UB is going to be working with the Student Recreation Center and other organizations on campus.
"We are trying a lot of new things on campus, and I think we will have a higher range of people at our events," Stanhope said. "We will have 'So You Think You Can Rap?' and we have never done that before."
Stanhope said that the UB is trying a lot of new things this semester.
