Student Body President Levi Bulgar presented information at Thursday night's Apportionment Board meeting on the Conference on Student Government Associations, which will take place at Texas A&M University from Feb. 28 to March 3.

Student Senate members Mike Hilty, Jarrod Scherle, Tyson Holder, Drew Griffin and Isaac Sandidge will attend the conference. Last year, only four members attended.

"Last year, it felt rushed with only four people," said AB Chair Tiffany Turner. "If the work got to be too much to handle, then the extra person could help with the stress."

Turner and Bulgar both attended the conference last year.

Student Government asked Apportionment Board for $7,000 for airfare, lodging, per diem expenses and fleet costs.

In the past, members of Student Government have brought back ideas from COSGA.

Some ideas from COSGA include the Student Action Team, Panther Service Day, First Night and Float for a Cause.

This is when Student Senate members provide root beer floats to the student body in exchange for their opinions.

The $7,000 proposal passed Apportionment Board with an 8-1 vote.

The five Student Senate members that were chosen were picked based on their merits.

"We had a general application process open for two weeks," Bulgar said. "Then, Tiffany and I sat down with the senators who submitted applications and asked them questions such as what they would take from the conference and how much time they had left on senate."

Bulgar said a lot of students viewed COSGA as a free trip and Bulgar said this was not the case.

"They are working and representing us," Bulgar said.

Turner said there was an application and interview process where Student Senate members were asked their qualifications.

AB member Mike Mulvaney said he voted for the conference because it seemed to have worked well in the past.

"Any opportunity for student development is important," he said.
