Inspection in Doudna Fine Arts Center completed

The Illinois Capital Development Board concluded its inspection of the Dvorak Concert Hall in the Doudna Fine Arts Center on Nov. 21.
The hall re-opened immediately following the inspection.
Gary Reed, director of facilities, planning and management, said CDB and the contractor determined the organ chamber doors are designed to rotate to open on hinge pins.
"The hinge pins became disengaged (on) one panel, causing it to fall out of its mounting," he said.
Reed added the contractor secured the panels in question.
"EIU was then advised that it was safe to occupy," he said.
Reed added the university is waiting on CDB for the final course of action in securing the organ chamber door.
On Nov. 19, two students were injured when the organ chamber door in Dvorak fell on them while it was being closed. The students were rehearsing for the EIU Symphony Orchestra when the copper and wood door fell.
Student Patrick Rheingruber injured his left hand, and student Trent Mason lost a tooth and chipped two other teeth because of the accident.
Rheingruber suffered minor injuries and a few lacerations on the hand. He received stitches and is expected to make a full recovery.
Following the inspection, the Illinois Music Education Association held two concerts in Dvorak on Nov. 22.
