Campus Briefs: Memorial service to be held on Saturday

A memorial service will be held for English professor Graham Lewis at 2 p.m. Saturday at the First Christian Church, 411 Jackson Ave.

Lewis died on Tuesday. He began teaching at Eastern in 1993. He won many honors including two Academy of American Poets' Prizes and The Kenneth Patchen Award. Caudill King Funeral is in charge of the arrangements for his memorial service.



Parking lot by Doudna blocked off today

The parking lot between the Doudna Fine Arts Center and Ninth Street will be closed this morning in order to create parking for visitors attending the Doudna rededication ceremony at 2 p.m. today. Faculty and staff should park in other lots today.



Bags tournament to raise money for MDA

The Charleston Fire Department Local 3200 is hosting a bags tournament to support the Muscular Dystrophy Association.

The event is scheduled for noon Saturday at the Panther Paw Bar & Grill, 1412 Fourth St. Pre-registration is available for $15 through today and registration is available on Saturday for $20.

First place, second place and third place winners will receive $250, $100 and $50 respectively. All proceeds benefit individuals in the Charleston community fighting neuromuscular diseases.

Make a caramel apple at Freaky Friday Fright Fest

Students will have the opportunity to make their own caramel apple, decorate a pumpkin and a chance to win prices at "UB Rush Hour: Freaky Friday Fright Fest" from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Bridge Lounge of the Martin Luther King Jr. University Union. The event is being hosted by the University Board Special Events Committee and the Martin Luther King Jr. University Union.
