As a Student Senate member, one of the main responsibilities that I am entitled to is to represent the study body. In order to fulfill these tasks, various committees work hard to find different ways to benefit the students.

Last week's bylaw change failed because the Student Senate members who voted against it believe that staying in the Student Activities Center for two additional hours is not feasible. Now, a new opportunity will be proposed this week where getting those two additional hours will not have to be just confined in an office space.

By encouraging the Student Senate members to interact with the student population by performing service hours, they will be able to utilize and develop time management skills while still performing their duties as student representatives.

Student Government is not a mandatory organization. All of the Student Senate members who are currently in office have either been elected by the student body or appointed by the Student Senate speaker because they want to try and make a difference.

If the Student Senate members can't fulfill service hours or help with on other projects prepared by other members, then what is there left to do? Are we just going to let the student body down and assume we're not an important organization?

By taking the time and realizing what it truly means to be a Student Senate member, they will then be able to critically analyze the true responsibilities of what representing the student body is all about.
