The proposal to look into extending library hours was put on hold at Wednesday's Student Senate meeting.

It will be re-worded for next week's meeting. The new proposal, if approved, is going to allow the academic affairs committee to research the possibility of a need for more library hours by polling students.

"We are changing the resolution to research and look more into it," said Chris Kromphardt, chair of the academic affairs committee. "I wanted to wait to get senate approval and if it goes any further than that, I would contact Faculty Senate and the library advisory board."

The academic affairs committee would look into changing library hours during the week from 8 a.m. to 7 a.m. and extending Friday afternoon hours.

"We would do a survey of students through e-mails if they wanted to go through with this," Kromphardt said.

Student Body President Levi Bulgar and Jackie Alexander, student vice president for academic affairs, also were approved as student liaisons to the academic technology advisory committee.

"It oversees the Turning Point system and deals with the laptop initiative," Alexander said.

Student Senate Speaker Isaac Sandidge is also looking into implementing the Turning Point system into Student Senate meetings.

"We would need to have some trial runs first," he said.

Also, the seven-member constitutional review committee might be changed to be open to all senate members.

Many senate members feel that seven members are not enough to look over the constitution.

Regardless of what type of committee is chosen, the committee would look over the constitution for any outdated bylaws.

In other business, senate members disagreed about the extension of office hours for senate members from two to four hours.

The proposal was tabled for next week's meeting.

Kromphardt said student executive officers only have to clock in five hours according to the constitution.

"That is something that could be changed as well, though, because most student executive members are actually in the office for more around ten hours a week," Bulgar said.
