In this issue of the Verge, we turn to try and give you and your parents as much information as we can about Family Weekend events.

Each year, parents from throughout the state and beyond invade campus to see just what all the fuss is about when it comes to Eastern.

Thankfully, there are a number of options for you to participate in.

That is what we tried to showcase.

You can find out all about a couple of cool events on our feature page (that's Page 5 for those keeping score at home). Also, Page 7 showcases a local performer who returns to Eastern to entertain the Rock 'n' Bowl crowd.

And of course, Page 1 draws attention to a little blue-collar fun. Bill Engvall will become the first comedian to headline Family Weekend since Wayne Brady did so in 2003.

If any of those events don't appeal to you or your parents, see Page 8 for a complete calendar of all the events.

But the important things are not the events themselves.

What you have to remember is to have a good time while your parents are in town.

This might be the only time you see them on your turf this fall and it benefits you to show them a good time and, especially for freshmen and transfers, to let them know that they have nothing to worry about when they return home.

Naturally, parents will worry anyway.

However, if they see that there are plenty of things to keep you occupied and entertained on campus as well as in Charleston, their worries will decrease.

Only real reality show returns

OK, I admit it.

There might be a reality TV show I actually enjoy.

For years, I have been a holdout.

Reality shows are horrible pieces of trash that have no basis in reality at all.

What could you possibly learn from shows that pretty much place completely different people in an environment that ultimately leads to a cleverly edited 40-plus-minute show that makes it seem as if these people are race-baiting on a daily basis when they take time out of their daily orgies?
