Letter to the editor: Needless fear
Issue date: 9/22/08 Section: Opinions
In his Sept. 11 DEN piece, Dr. Christopher Hanlon voices concern regarding one of our national candidate's religious zeal.
Dr. Hanlon also informs that Europeans, and I hope he does not mean all or even most, view Americans as religious fanatics. I believe Dr. Hanlon has little cause for alarm. After all, Europe is the continent that inflicted Adolf Hitler, Joseph Stalin, the gulags and the guillotines on humanity.
It appears our friends in Europe should focus on concerns inside their own borders rather than fret over perceived fanaticism many miles across an ocean.

Yes, it appears that Europeans should focus on concerns inside their own borders... the ones that happened 70 years ago. Obviously Sarah Palin cannot be a religious fanatic since Hitler was from Germany. (Continued…)

Mr. Blair is correct. The countries of Europe have had many things to worry about since 9/11. The bombings in London and Madrid. The riots in France. (Continued…)

I agree with Mr. Blair. I believe that many Americans (but certainly not all of us, as Dr. Hanlon would have us believe) hold similar religious beliefs as Sarah Palin. (Continued…)

I like your style Mr. Blair. Let me try it:

AV: Your comment made me first think, "there's got to be a more productive way to argue this," but then I thought, "wait a minute, AV isn't trying to argue, he's just trying to attack Chris Hanlon. (Continued…)

Normally I would find it strange for a faculty member to have anything to do with these online comments sections. But Hanlon's letter was published on the site and had a reason to respond to commentary. (Continued…)
