A weather disaster announcement was made Thursday morning by the Illinois State Treasure's office. A town hall meeting will be conducted at 5:30 p.m. on Monday in the Coles County Courthouse in Charleston to discuss financial relief opportunities.

Representatives from the treasurer's office will explain how to apply for two possible loan programs worth up to $100,000 to aid in weather related damages.

"We've got wide-spread damage and unfortunately, we had a tragic death because of rising waters," said Rep. Chapin Rose, R- Mahomet. "We also have substantial monetary crop damages to farmers."

Alexi Giannoulias, Illinois state treasurer, is offering low-interest loans to residents who may have to wait for insurance compensation or who may not have insurance coverage. The loans are from the Cultivate Illinois: Storm & Drought Loan Programs.

"This is an opportunity for southern Illinois residents to get their lives back on track faster," Giannoulias said. "Waiting months for insurance settlements can be very frustrating, and we want to help as much as we can in the meantime."

Only residents of a county that has been declared a disaster area can apply for the loans. Governor Rod Blagojevich declared Coles County a disaster area on June 10.

According to Giannoulias' Web site, residents have within 90 days to apply from when the declaration was made.

Residents must apply for the loan from a participating bank, and upon approval, the money is transferred within 24 hours.
