Ken Baker, director of Campus Recreation, was named interim athletic director today.

Baker replaces Rich McDuffie who was put on administrative leave as of Aug 13.

As acting director, Baker will be responsible for the development and administration of the intercollegiate athletics program.

Baker was chosen for the interim position from among several nominees named by members of Eastern's Department of Intercollegiate Athletics.

He will serve until a permanent athletic director is in place, with a national search expected to begin this fall.

Baker has served as director of Campus Recreation since 2000. The university plans to immediately begin reviewing temporary leadership alternatives for that area.

Prior to Baker being named, Dan Nadler, vice president for student affairs, served as temporary athletic director.

I do not understand why the former wresteling program keeps getting brought up. As a former student athlete at EIU, the duty as a student athlete is first to perform in the classroom as a student and then to perform as an athlete. (Continued…)
