Tickets for the Goo Goo Dolls sold out in less than a month, and now students await the arrival of the rock band that will perform with Augustana at 8 p.m. Sunday in Lantz Arena.

Nicole Amstadt, a sophomore dietetics major, made sure she got her ticket before they sold out.

She stood in line at 8:30 a.m. Jan. 16, the day tickets went on sale, to make sure she got to see one of her favorite bands.

"I'm really excited about the concert, and I plan to get there pretty early to be close to the stage," Amstadt said. "They have been around for a long time, and their music still sounds great."

Students might be excited to see the Goo Goo Dolls perform, but the band is just as excited to be making its way to Eastern on tour.

"This is a really cool tour that we are on right now," said Robby Takac, bass player for the band. "It's going to a lot of places that we were touring around during the summer, but we never really got to. I'm really glad that we are able to come through and do this kind of thing right now before we head back over to Europe and start doing festivals again. It's an amazing change of pace, and it's an awesome part of the country."

Of the current tour, Takac said he likes the energy a college-aged audience brings to the shows.

"People in college want to have fun. They go to school to learn and to have fun," he said. "When they come to the show, there's (more of) an air of excitement at schools than there is in night clubs. There's a lot of status quo in a night club."

Amstadt said that bringing the Goo Goo Dolls to Eastern was a good choice on the University Board's behalf.

"They appeal to a lot of different people, whereas some of the rappers and punk rock bands that are popular today aren't liked by as many people," she said.
