Eastern alumni play a large role in promoting the university and pumping up school spirit, especially during Homecoming.

Many of them come back for different functions on campus, including reunions, campus activities and Greek functions, said Steve Rich, director of alumni services. However, the largest number of alumni return during Homecoming.

The Illinois Board of Higher Education conducts alumni satisfaction surveys, which report that Eastern alumni rank the university extremely high, Rich said.

"When asked if they would do it all over again, they respond 'yes'," he said.

Alumni speak very highly of Eastern at events such as the Annual Alumni Awards Dinner and in general, which translates to good student recruitment.

"To hear the alumni speak about their experience at EIU and what EIU has meant to them in their lives is very positive and uplifting," Rich said. "A person can't help but feel good about the university after hearing the alumni talk each year."
