Shuttle bus adds stop at University Apartments

Eastern's shuttle bus service, the Panther Express, has added the University Apartments to its route.
At the beginning of last semester, the Eastern Student-Parent Association approached the Student Senate to add University Apartments to the shuttle bus route. The Student-Parent Association, led by president Theresa Lindsay, brought a petition of 96 signatures to the Student Senate.
Jillian Ruddy, Senate's Shuttle Bus Committee chairwoman, worked with the Student-Parent Association and the Panther Express to change the schedule.
"The schedule was slightly rearranged, and Lantz Arena stops were removed from some areas, but for the most part no times were changed," said Ruddy, a sophomore elementary education major. "The bus service was really willing to do this because there were so many people who really wanted this."
The bus schedule has to be rearranged and organized. This schedule change is helping families at Eastern a lot, Ruddy said.
"We have been dropping a lot of people off at the University Apartments," said Jeff Wright, a shuttle bus driver. "The residents have been concerned with not being able to be dropped off in the apartment complex."
Jeff Wright has been driving the shuttle bus around campus since the beginning of the year.
The new shuttle bus stop is located at the north end of the parking lot of the University Apartments because drivers were told by the bus garage they cannot take passengers all the way back to the building, Wright said. A lot of students with small children have been riding the bus now, he said.
Printed schedules are in limited supply on campus, but the schedule can be found at www.eiu.edu on the Student Government Web site under Panther Express, Ruddy said.

-Monday-Thursday: The early bus will arrive every half-hour beginning at 7:58 a.m. until 2:10 p.m., with a driver break from noon to 1 p.m. There is a late bus that will arrive every half-hour beginning at 3:58 p.m. until 11:58 p.m.
-Friday-Sunday: The bus will arrive every half-hour beginning at 2 p.m. until midnight, with a driver break from 5 to 6 p.m.
