Eastern is gay. And not in the derogatory way. Pride, the LGBTA group on campus, is a vital part of Eastern's role in higher education, guiding students to a more holistic view of the world. At tonight's Student Senate meeting, three resolutions are up for a vote, two of which require funds. The Student Senate has a resolution requesting $54.64 to supply sanitation wipes in the Student Activity Center, and a resolution asking for a Visa gift card of $55 for the Shuttle Bus logo contest winners. Novelist and social activist Ngugi Thiong'o will give a reading at 7 p.m. today in the Doudna Fine Arts Center Lecture Hall. In addition, an open forum with Ngugi wa will be held 1 to 4 p.m. today in the Booth Library Conference Room. A black Pontiac was damaged Wednesday while parked at Carman Hall, according to the University Police Department. A student received harassing phone calls by an unknown subject Thursday, police said. An announcement was made at Saturday's football game regarding alleged solicitors. "The announcement was all a miscommunication of sorts that inadvertently got communicated and announced at the football game," said Ceci Brinker, director of Student Life. The economy may be down, but the number of alumni donating to the university's annual fund and the amount of money they are giving is on the rise. Fiscal year 2009 saw 5,388 alumni donate to the university, up from 5,266 in 2008. The number of overall donors also rose, from 6,763 in 2008 to 7,118 in 2009. (1) comment
The City Council's decision Tuesday night on the issue that has been wrestled with for months and resulted in a city lawsuit was relatively anticlimactic.
