Mattoon's approval to build Coles Centre and Charleston's plans for a shopping center and hotel have been subject to the slow economy, making further approval, construction and leasing fall well beyond the timeline. The search for a replacement for Jeff Cooley, vice president for business affairs, is progressing as planned. Robert Augustine, dean of the Graduate School and chair of the search committee, said the search committee has received 36 applications and will continue reviewing them until campus interviews are scheduled for sometime in January. New system helps with transfer credits

Eastern has recently added a new system this fall to help transfer and native Eastern students with the confusion on what classes will transfer to other schools. The u.select system, also known as the Course Applicability System, is designed to help students obtain information about how courses taken will transfer to other institutions and to understand which classes will go toward their college degree. Former Illinois Gov. Jim Edgar was shocked about the level of political corruption Gov. Rod Blagojevich allegedly conducted during his two terms. Edgar, a Charleston native and a 1968 Eastern graduate, said he was not surprised, however, that Blagojevich was arrested. (1) comment
