Java Beanery & Bakery gets 'coffee shop' look

Students walking through the Martin Luther King Jr. University Union are bound to have noticed the changes made to Java Beanery and Bakery. New tables and chairs have replaced the old furniture, giving the area a more "coffee shop" appeal. Antonia Jackson, an employee at Java B & B, said the new furniture was a much-needed change and has given the vicinity a more modern and chic look. (0) comments

Bonnstetter found not guilty

Mark Bonnstetter was found not guilty Monday on all three charges related to an incident involving a former neighbor during the early morning of Nov. 25, 2006. The neighbor alleged Bonnstetter fondled her while she was sleeping. "I'm glad this is over, and that I can be with my family again," Bonnstetter said after the verdict was announced. (2) comments

Golden Gyros, a restaurant off Lincoln Avenue, has closed its doors after less than one year of business. Mayor John Inyart said the city would help aid Charleston enterprise in attempts to fill the building's new vacancy. "In the grand scheme of things, though, private development and vacant properties are really controlled by the free enterprise system," he said. (3) comments

Tickets are on sale for two Charleston Community Theatre productions. Dr. Henry Conroe testified Monday that Mark Bonnstetter was not sleepwalking when he entered a neighbor's home on Nov. 25, 2006. Conroe, a forensic psychiatrist, did not claim Bonnstetter had never walked during his sleep on previous occasions but, based on his review of pertinent records, concluded Bonnstetter was not sleepwalking on the night of the alleged incident.
