The Eastern volleyball team added five newcomers to its roster when training camp began in July. While freshmen Hannah Deterding and Brittany Wallace were both from Illinois, the other three made quite the trek to play for the Panthers. Despite the early-season struggles of the Eastern women's soccer team, head coach Tim Nowak remains confident his team has been improving with every match. While the Panthers have yet to win one match and have only scored one goal through their first seven matches, Nowak said he believes the team is making strides and learning throughout the season. Indiana State sophomore quarterback Chuck Dowdell found himself facing the hard rush of Eastern's defense in the Sycamores' 38-3 loss to the Panthers on Saturday. Dowdell was never sacked, but he was hit often, hurried four times and fumbled the ball twice on snaps. (0) comments
Eastern men's soccer team is beginning to see more and more stars each season. St. Charles North Stars that is. The Panthers have gotten three players from the west Chicago suburb soccer powerhouse during the past two seasons including red-shirt freshman defender Mitch Welsch, freshman midfielder Mike Picinich and freshman defender Austin Andrekus. Red-shirt freshman scrum-half Narissa Ramirez knew she was a great athlete, but she did not know that by the time she was a sophomore she would be a key component on the Eastern women's rugby team. Ramirez, who was captain of her basketball and softball team in high school, came to Eastern never having played rugby before. (0) comments
Senior wing Samantha Manto led the Eastern women's rugby team to a 102-0 shutout of Wisconsin-Stevens Point with a season high seven tries. As a senior, Manto brings more than just experience to the field each week, she also brings the leadership and dependability that every coach dreams of, especially women's head rugby coach Frank Graziano.
