Reviving a relic

Local man opens first Charleston drive-in in 25 years

By Sam Sottosanto Senior Verge Reporter Alphonso DiPietro remembers taking his wife and two children to the drive-in theatre back in the 1960s. His oldest son sat in his pajamas between DiPietro, a math professor at Eastern, and his wife. Meanwhile, his daughter, only a few months old, sat on his wife's lap. (0) comments

Movie Review: "Babylon A.D."

Violence, plot holes kill 'Babylon A.D.'

"Babylon A.D." is a confusing twist of pointless scenes and almost unnecessary violence. The plot revolves around Toorop (Vin Diesel), a mercenary who lives in a future world full of riots and war. He is a tough guy who lives by his ideal that he must "kill or be killed. (0) comments

Businesses have one goal: to make a profit. I've worked at enough sales-based jobs to see through the "We truly care about customer satisfaction" slogans. It's all about money. So why does Hollywood give us an entire movie and all its best parts packed into two and half minutes for free? Not to get nostalgic, but remember when movie previews didn't give away the best parts of the movie? What happened to that? When I saw a preview for "The Simpsons Movie," I couldn't wait until it came out because I thought the Spiderpig bit was hilarious and I couldn't wait to see more. (0) comments

The Avett Brothers are hauling their upright bass all the way to the University of Illinois from Concorde, N.C., on Sept. 7. Between the bass, banjo, harmonica, drums and acoustic guitar, their sound can get a bit raucous at times. (0) comments

UB 'movie geek' brings Hollywood to EIU

Double feature to kick off movie showings

Ryan Kerch has probably seen as many movies in the past few years as a lot of movie critics. He has worked at a movie theater in his hometown for several years. He cannot estimate how many movies he has seen in that time. So when he applied in 2007 to work for Eastern's University Board, he naturally made the position of movies coordinator his first choice. 'Twilight' movie move not enough for 'Potter' fan
